As HIV and AIDS continues to devestate sub-saharan Africa there are increasing opportunies to fight back. Medical advances are able to prevent the spread of the disease from mother to child and prolongue the lives of men, women, and children. Despite the new opportunities to bring this disease under control there is little awareness and discussion in many Western countries.

In North America there is even less attention to a distant suffering continent. Although corruption, infrastructure, and politics are obstacles, they do not compare to the inaction being taken by the world. The African Book Club will assist in raising money for medicine, food, and creating an awareness in North American about life in Africa.
